Our focus at La Petite Martiniere is on high-quality healthy fish that thrive in their environment and that will stand out in your photo album. The following is a guide to how we feel this is managed with regards to tackle, rigs, fish handling and bait. Please be aware these are to be followed and blatant ignoring of them will not be tolerated. We are here to help with any aspect of your trip, so please ask if in doubt.
FISH HEALTHPreventing the spread of lethal viral diseases such as KHV and keeping our fish safe during handling is integral to this so here we provide all landing nets, unhooking mats, slings, water buckets and antiseptic, only these must be used while you are on site.
With the potential of catching large carp during your stay, we ask that you are correctly prepared at all times to land and handle the fish. Again this may seem ‘obvious’ but on too many occasions now, I have had to intervene and help out with this aspect of the fishing. We all want nice photos for our albums but often, this takes far too long because of not being prepared for handling the fish quickly and safely once it has been landed. The rule here is that a fish should be not be out of the water for more than a minute or so at any one time. Following these guidelines and with the equipment provided, there should be no reason for us to have to worry about our precious stock. |
TACKLE & EQUIPMENTAll anglers equipment should be clean, dry and in particular, to minimise the risk of any issues occurring during your stay, please check that all rods, reels and main line are in a suitable condition for fishing for carp before you come.
All guides (eyes) on all rods must be in good condition and not damaged in any way. Reel seats must be a solid fit on the rod (no movement) and reels must fit correctly. Reel drag systems must be working correctly, with a smooth operation and SET UP correctly. No braided main line is allowed and a MINIMUM of 18lb line is required for carp fishing. All main line must be in good condition to prevent snap offs where reasonably possible.. If it is deemed not to be, then you will be required to change it. |
RIGSNo matter what views we all have, fishing safely and reducing the risk of damage to the fish is of utmost importance. Our view is, to be as safe as possible, should you snap off from a fish at the main line, only the hooklink (plus swivel) should be left with the fish until it can eject it - hopefully without causing any harm.
All rig components (if not the PB products hit & run system) must be compatible with each other and work in a way so that only the hooklink remains with the fish if a snap off occurs. Rig tubing of at least 40cm must be used on main line if you are not using a leader set up. Helicopter rigs are allowed but MUST be checked by us before use. Chod rigs and zig rigs are NOT permitted. Surface fishing is NOT permitted. No lead core is permitted. Barbless or crushed micro barbed hooks ONLY. No long shank hooks and small amounts of shrink tube only, no long lengths to create large curves. No swivels attached to the hook, hooklink material only. |
FISH NUTRITIONIt is important to make sure our fish have a healthy diet in terms of quality and quantity. Carp have complex nutritional requirements based around their anatomy. With this in mind, we have a few simple rules regarding bait.
Fresh/freezer boilies only are allowed as feed, no shelf-life boilies may be used unless by prior agreement. We would recommend at least 10kg of boilie and 3kg of pellets per week/angler. Only particle baits and tiger nuts prepared by us may be used. We limit particle use per day and tiger nuts may only be used as a hook bait No other nuts are permitted. No Korda Goo or similar products allowed. Please do not put unused bait in the lake at the end of your stay. We can dispose of any excess if required. |
ENVIRONMENTWe aim to run a fishery that attracts visitors who enjoy the environment and appreciate the peace, beauty and tranquillity of our venue.
No fires or BBQ's, except for those provided. All litter, including cigarette butts, must be put in the waste bins provided. All vehicles must be left in the car park (no vehicles to be taken to swims). Noisy, rowdy behaviour or drinking to excess will not be tolerated. Please do not cut vegetation or damage the banks. If you have any problems, please let us know. Smoking is not permitted inside the accommodation. |
